we should change the definition of bisexuality to “attraction to women and not-women” because it’s perfectly inclusive and shifts the focus from men to women
i dont get it
You know, instead if not…
Good job on your knowledge of prefixes. However, Bi does not mean two in bisexuality. Bi is not binary. If you insist on bi meaning two, then the categories are “same gender or gender presentation” and “different genders or gender presentations”
My post originally attempted to make an observation on the patriarchy, which it couldn’t do because I was too high to form coherent written thought.
All major dictionaries and most people totally define bisexuality as attraction to men and women/males and females so i dont see where youre pulling that from.
Try pansexual for the other stiff. BIsexuality is BInary
Bi is not binary. Take the definition from the bisexual community, not from dictionaries that were written by a collection of cishet men. I honestly don’t care about the dictionary definition. I care about the definition that the bisexual community has put forth.
Lol so the community as defined by the definition get to decide it? Genius.
Wow, what a novel idea. A community getting to define it’s own word.
“I call myself bisexual because I acknowledge in myself the potential to be attracted, romantically and/or sexually, to people of more than one sex, not necessarily at the same time, not necessarily in the same way, and not necessarily to the same degree.”-Robyn Ochs
I recommend you read this entire page, as well as watching the video on the page. Maybe explore more things.
And as I’ve said multiple times now, Bi isn’t Binary
More interesting reading: Words, binary and biphobia, or: why “bi” is binary but “FTM” is not by Shiri Eisner (I just want to highlight one specific part of this right near the beginning: [S]imilar to “homosexuality” and “lesbianism”, “bisexuality” is a word reclaimed by the bisexual movement from the medical institution. The bi community itself had therefore little to no influence over formation and structure of the word, but has since reclaimed it to mean “potential attraction to more than one sex or gender”. -Shiri Eisner)
Do some reading. Read some things written by actual bisexual people. As I said, I don’t care what the dictionary says. I care what we say.
You disagree with me on the definition of a word. Chill out.
There are bigger issues out there and no way to resolve this one, there are no facts we are arguing about.
